REMOVAL OF MOLES AND SKIN TAGS FOR COSMETIC PURPOSES
Some skin lesions, although completely benign, can be cosmetically bothersome. At the patient’s request, it is thus possible to remove various types of lesions, such as benign moles, skin tags (“small flesh-colored growths”), seborrheic keratoses (“age spots”), or other benign skin growths.
Before any procedure, a consultation is conducted to confirm that the lesion is benign and to determine the most appropriate technique. Depending on the type, size, and location of the lesion, removal can be performed by surgical excision, shaving, electrosurgery, or cryotherapy.
The procedure is performed in the doctor’s office, under local anesthesia when necessary. It usually lasts a few minutes. The aftereffects are mild and, in most cases, allow patients to resume their normal activities immediately. Topical care and sun protection for the treated area are recommended to optimize healing.
As with any skin procedure, a scar—usually a subtle one—is inevitable. The choice of technique is always aimed at achieving the best possible aesthetic result, while ensuring safe and effective treatment.
Procedures performed solely for aesthetic reasons are generally not covered by basic health insurance (LAMal).
